Get There Faster
About 10 years ago, we collaborated with some of the world's most forward-thinking shippers to develop a concept we call Managed TMS®.
These shippers did not want to buy a TMS. They didn't want to install it, support it, or upgrade it. They did not want to have staff providing ongoing maintenance or training. Moreover, they felt some of the largest hidden costs associated with TMS included carrier integration, training, and ongoing EDI support. They wanted to eliminate this cost completely and make little or no capital investment.

But they did not want to relinquish control and outsource their freight to a third party provider. They wanted to use our TMS technology to transform their freight networks, and they wanted to take advantage of our global infrastructure and TMS connectivity—while still retaining control and direct contact with their carriers. They required complete transparency and software that led to empowerment and better decision-making. In other words, they wanted to use our infrastructure on their terms, customized to their needs.
They knew that they could source all of these functions internally, but with our help, they also knew they could achieve their strategy—and get there faster.
We thought that made perfect sense.
In addition to not paying for software, our clients wanted to tap into our considerable expertise. They wanted us to provide Six Sigma-trained process engineers to help them analyze their freight networks and then create savings and operational improvement plans. They also wanted us to provide power users who could operate the TMS technology daily, thus maximizing the software benefits—and freeing their staffs for more strategic work. They didn't want a specific invoice for this expertise. They wanted the cost of our power users to be part of an activity-based fee we charge for each shipment.
Again, we thought that made perfect sense.
Instead of paying for a TMS, process engineers, and day-to-day power users, our clients wanted a pay-as-you-go model that allowed them to begin saving money and improving service levels. They didn't want a new capital expenditure, and they didn't want to wait for a long-term ROI.
A decade later, our TMS technology is more powerful than ever. We have assembled talented teams of process engineers and TMC power users. Our engineers focus on continual process improvement, and our power users maximize the software to ensure your staff focuses on driving your strategy. And those first few clients have turned into a mature and diverse portfolio of clients who can show you documented savings every week, every quarter, and every year. We're also helping these clients improve service levels, manage their carbon footprints, and move freight globally.
