Continental Mills Awards TMC Multi-Year Contract
Continental Mills, a national leader in the retail baking mix industry, has awarded a multi-year contract to C.H. Robinson Worldwide, through its Transportation Management Center (TMCTM). After a thorough selection process, TMC was selected to centrally manage all of Continental Mills' North American freight. C.H. Robinson is one of the largest non-asset based third party logistics (3PL) companies in the world, providing global multimodal transportation services and logistics solutions.
"TMC's ability to offer a flexible menu of solutions that fit Continental Mills' strategy was a key point of differentiation for our selection team," said Eric Pettersen, transportation manager for Continental Mills. "We were looking for a transportation management partner that would collaboratively add value and expertise to our growing operations. TMC provides best in class technology, business intelligence tools, and enhances our ability to predict, control and obtain the most value from our transportation spend."
TMC will provide technology and transportation experts for Continental Mills' North American inbound and outbound freight network. Continental Mills will retain carrier selection and rate negotiation using TMC's planning, execution, and business tools to enhance their control and capabilities.
The first phase of the project included implementation of Continental Mills' East region outbound network. Implementation will continue to the West region outbound network and Continental Mills' North American inbound network. TMC's Process Transformation team worked closely with Continental Mills' project team to implement TMC's On-Demand Transportation Management System, which enables collaboration with all trading partners via the Internet. TMC's technology and business intelligence tools provide Continental Mills with complete order level visibility to improve optimization, understand cost drivers, and enable collaborative, continuous improvement across their network.
"With the amount of supply chain transformation we were contemplating, we needed TMC's speed of implementation, disciplined project management approach, and variable fee structure to achieve business objectives as quickly as possible," Pettersen said.
"We are very excited about being selected as Continental Mills' transportation management lead logistics provider," said Jordan Kass, director of C.H. Robinson's TMC. "Continental Mills and TMC™ have created a solution that combines expert people, industry best practices, and technology that will successfully position Continental Mills as a best in class transportation organization."
About Managed TMS:
Our Managed TMS Services provide shippers with expertise and technology that drive both immediate and sustained cost savings throughout their transportation networks. Core components of this service include Six Sigma-based process engineering, advanced TMS technology and onsite TMS power-users, who serve as an extension of the shipper's staff. C.H. Robinson offers Managed TMS services through the Transportation Management Center (TMC), a global business unit with offices in Chicago and Amsterdam. TMC does not generate revenue by handling freight. It collects fees for technology deployment, day-to-day TMS operation and ongoing process optimization. Over the past 10 years, TMC has exceeded client expectations for savings, productivity, supply chain improvements, and carbon footprint reduction. For more information, please visit http://www.mytmc.com/.
